Blog Post # 2: Studio Interior

Ok was definitely time for a new taberet, I had well and truly outgrown my ol' work horse, so I set about looking for one. After spending countless hours searching the net, I decided to hit Ikea and see if I could make something from their range of drawers and shelves.

New taboret !!! YAY !

Picture
Loads of draws for paint storage, locking wheels, folding glass palette, rear drop leaf table, hold all for brushes, shelves for everyday items.
IKEA... what a nightmare! ... after much rigmarole, ado, two 1 hour long trips to the store, measuring, futile efforts to find staff, getting lost, eating Swedish meatballs and drinking some unidentifiable tasting liquid, I chose my components! 2 sets of drawers and one set of adjoining shelves, and attached to the back a drop leaf table that so I can increase the work surface area.

Thankfully I have an amazingly and clever husband who managed to make sense of the inadequate instructions and put it together without having any left over screws or bits and pieces.

Drop leaf table, for added bench top space.

The poor ol' work horse is put out to pasture.
Stay tuned for next fortnights studio update.

Looking at your new ikea set up...what do you use for the tilt panel structure underneath to raise the mixing board area?. Is this something you made or is it something you obtained somewhere...Care to share. Thanks. James

Hi James, that tilt structure I got from a local art supply shop, it's a tilting drawing board made out of melamine. It has rubber stopper feet on it and just happened to fit perfectly. I added a thin piece of timber to the bottom to create a ledge to hold a piece of toughened glass. I prefer a white palette, but the glass could easily be lifted up and a piece of grey or brown toned paper could be put under the glass. Thanks for asking.
